Maths

Don't forget to login to Times Tables Rock Stars and keep those tables fresh. The same company is also giving us free access to Numbots during school closure, a similar idea but with addition and subtraction facts as the focus. Just login to TTRS as usual, then look for the Numbots logo on the side panel.

Timestables - This website is excellent to practise timestables; it is especially good for children in Y2 to Y4.

Interactive Maths Games - This website has a range of interactive maths games

Open Ended Problem Solving Activities - This website has a fantastic range of open ended problem solving activities and maths games (usually to play with a paper and pencil!) Go to the web address and click on the orange house link in the top tab for activities for children age 5 to 11.

Playing games is an excellent way of helping your child. Recognising patterns on dice and dominoes, for example, can be really help with creating mental images of numbers and helping them on the way to becoming fluent and flexible with calculations.

Shut the box, Rummikub, Card games, Dominoes, Battleships, Pick up sticks (with scoring)

Stories

Audible have made a number of audio books for children free to listen to, these include classics like Winnie the Pooh, and The Secret Garden (so if you had intended to go and see the film you can hear the original story first)

Jackanory Junior has quite a few lovely stories available - including the Big Bear/Little Bear stories

Computing / Internet Safety

Telener GroupThis website contains child friendly resources/ tutorials which your child can access to learn about staying safe online; there are different activities according to age.

Phonics Play 

The phonicsplay website is giving everyone free access to all activities during school closures. They have also added phonics based comics for when you have read your school reading book so much you know it by heart!

There are many idea to support teaching phonics and advice for parents in helping their children learn to read.

Oxford Owl

Oxford Owl is an award-winning free website packed with expert advice, top tips, eBooks and activities to help you support your child’s reading and maths at home. Also 250 free e-books when you register.

Twinkl has a huge amount of learning materials and worksheets from EY to Y6 across all curriculum areas.They are offering free access to parents. Go to: www.twinkl.co.uk/offer  and enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS

White Rose Maths are also in the process of creating some online resources.

World Book online have put lots of ebooks and activities online for free. You just need to sign up on the kids part and you will find all the covid closure deal there to browse. Plenty of non-fiction, also early reader titles. Some of them you can have read aloud to you.

Access Art is a fantastic visual arts organisation based in Cambridge. They have really great activities for all Primary year groups and have developed a special section for use during the closure.

As an RHS gardening school we should also recommend some of their resources. There is a 'Secret Garden' competition to enter, click here. In addition to great ideas for making and growing, click here.

Anyone with an interest in the natural world will find the Osprey Cam a great watch - the birds will be back at their nest site in a week or two. 

Also the RSPB is still running its 'Wild Challenge' with interesting activities both indoors and out.
